Dear Reader,
Though I am not an expert on the topic of political cartoons, I do wonder sometimes why people enjoy them so much. It is simply a form of mockery, a way to laugh at someone who is most likely more knowledgeable about the situation portrayed than the average layman looking at the picture. Are we humans really so insecure that we feel threatened by every little thing a politician does, causing us to resort to drawing ape-like, monkey creatures? And as for those cartoons showing doomed Americans facing steamship-tall gas prices: Once is enough! We get the point long before the 100th gas price cartoon, yet they just keep coming, along with those Hillary/Obama caricatures. So maybe these cartoonists want to vent some of America's anger/annoyance out on paper, but not everything has to be humor laced with sarcasm! Someday, somebody ought to take one of those touching generosity photographs and replace the political cartoons page of the each major magazine with a full-page image of (more rarely encountered) kindness. Political cartoons are alright once in a while, but seeing the same cynical image over and over just gets to be kind of tiring...Not to say, it makes one doubtful of humankind's ability to communicate compassion and empathy.

Dear Reader,
Spring Break is nearly over with and I feel as if I have accomplished nothing over it. Sometimes I wonder whether I truly enjoy just relaxing or whether I function better when there is some goal to achieve such as one finds in homework and on tests. After all, the brain does tend to atrophy when not exercised on a regular basis...
